Giants’ 9-9-9 Challenge Draws Criticism from Fans
A fan recently called out the San Francisco Giants’ 9-9-9 challenge, claiming it’s a $55 scam. At Oracle Park during Opening Day, many attendees expected more from the team’s promotional offering—nine hot dogs and nine beers to be consumed over the course of nine innings—but found it lacking.
The promotional box includes nine mini hot dogs and nine small cups that accommodate a portion of one 24-ounce beer can. Despite the hype around the 9-9-9 challenge, which typically features nine full-sized hot dogs and cans of beer, this offering fell short of expectations.
The concession company Aramark, which provides similar boxes at several ballparks, including those of the New York Mets, Philadelphia Phillies, and others, is behind this initiative aimed at enhancing the fan experience. However, fans have voiced their disappointment over the downsized version of the challenge, questioning its value.
Comments on social media reflect frustration: “They don’t get casual fans. Even non-drinkers might feel tipsy at a game,” one user noted. Another added, “Every ballpark is trying to stand out with fun food options. This is just plain disappointing. Who thought this was a good idea?”
One sarcastically remarked that it’s more of a “9-1-9 challenge,” indicating that the portion sizes are not what they were hoping for. The sentiment is clear: fans expected more for the $55 price tag.
