Giants Defense Working on Turnovers

The Giants’ defense in 2024 has been struggling, ranked 28th in the NFL. They’ve managed only five interceptions and just 15 takeaways, which isn’t great.

To tackle this issue, defensive coordinator Shane Bowen has introduced a unique approach: a turnover chest. This chest, reminiscent of a treasure chest, opens up to celebrate successful turnovers by the players. It was inspired by his son, who plays T-ball for a team called the Pirates.

“We’ve made some progress with takeaways,” Bowen remarked. “We had this idea of being aggressive—it’s about infringing, attacking, and essentially taking what’s not ours.”

He added, “You’ll hear our players say it: ‘Be a damn pirate’—we’re finding new ways to secure the ball.”

Wilson’s Role with Giants

As for Russell Wilson, he believes that taking care of oneself is crucial before mentoring others. This perspective is especially important when younger players, like rookie quarterbacks, join the team.

During a practice session, Wilson expressed, “It’s not just about one teammate; it’s about everyone in the building. The relationships between positions, from quarterbacks to receivers and beyond, are what matter.”

In his new role, Wilson signed a one-year deal worth $10.5 million, which could double with incentives. On the roster, he shares the quarterback position with backups Jameis Winston and Tommy Devito.

Wilson also gave a nod to rookie Jackson, calling him an amazing worker and a solid teammate. “We really have a focused and enthusiastic quarterback room,” he noted.

In other news, Evan Neal and Jake Kubas participated in light drills, with defensive back Dane Belton making an interception during practice. Rookie Darius Alexander was absent due to a minor injury.
