Shannon Sharpe Apologizes for IG Live Sex Tape: ‘I’m Embarrassed’

ESPN personality and former NFL Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe apologized Thursday after audio of him engaging in sexual acts with a woman was accidentally broadcast on Instagram Live.

Shannon Sharpe caused an internet frenzy on Wednesday when she posted an Instagram Live video to her 3.2 million followers featuring provocative audio of a woman and a man engaging in an intimate relationship. Sharpe initially claimed he'd been hacked, but came clean on Thursday, admitting that he'd accidentally posted the video during a “very private” session with the woman.

“Of course it's embarrassing. It's embarrassing in many ways for an extremely private person to have one of their most private details, an audio recording, played for the whole world to hear,” Sharp said in an emergency broadcast. Nightcap.

“There are a lot of people who expect Shannon to be professional at all times, and I strive to be professional at all times, even behind closed doors,” he added. “I'm very disappointed in myself. Not in the conduct, but in the fact that there are millions, maybe billions, of people of consenting age involved in the conduct, but I'm disappointed in myself that the audio was heard. I've let a lot of people down.”

Sharp said he threw his phone on the bed during the intimate session and didn't realise Instagram Live was on.

“I was engrossed in some activity and tossed my phone on the bed,” Sharp said. “I didn't know about IG Live. I'd never had IG Live on before so I didn't know how it worked, and all of a sudden my other phone started ringing.”

According to New York PostSharp's marketing partner, Jamie Fritz, alerted the former professional football player to what had happened and the live video ended.

“My phone was not hacked. It was not a prank, it was because I am a healthy, active man,” he said.

Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson softened the situation by acknowledging that Sharpe had deceived him in the past and then expressed disappointment in his own professional lapses.

“I'm confused. I never thought I'd see the day that Ankh would do something out of the ordinary like this,” Johnson said. “It's just unprofessional. I'm not angry. I'm just very disappointed because I hold you to a higher standard, and the standard you tried to reprimand me for on Saturday is exactly that standard. So this really has me in complete shock.”
