Shapiro joins Harris surrogates on weekend campaign blitz

Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro (Democrat), seen as a possible running mate for Harris, is scheduled to kick off a weekend campaigning stint for Harris on Saturday.

The “Governor Josh Shapiro Volunteer Weekend of Action Kickoff” will be held Saturday morning in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Harrisburg. Governor Shapiro will join pro-President Harris volunteers from across central Pennsylvania.

The Harris campaign noted that Harris received the unanimous endorsement of Pennsylvania’s 159 delegates, a key battleground state. Shapiro got involved in the volunteer effort because he has emerged as Harris’ leading candidate to be her running mate and is seen as a rising star within the party.

Saturday marks 100 days before Election Day, and the Harris campaign is holding other events to mark the occasion.

Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff will headline the Democratic campaign kickoff with Harris in the battleground state of Stevens Point, Wisconsin.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz (Democrat) is scheduled to begin campaigning with other surrogates and volunteers for Harris ahead of a rally for former President Trump in St. Cloud, Minnesota.

Meanwhile, Harris held a fundraiser in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. Reportedly Musicians James Taylor and Yo-Yo Ma will also be performing.

Also on Tuesday, Harris will hold a campaign rally in Atlanta, marking her sixth visit to the battleground state of Georgia this year.

Harris announced her intention to seek the Democratic nomination on Sunday and has since been gaining ground in key battleground states compared to President Biden’s polling. A Thursday Emerson College poll and The Hill survey showed Trump narrowly leading Harris in key battleground states, but the margin is narrower than when Biden was in the lead.
