Sharon Stone Sets the Record Straight at Astra Awards

Sharon Stone, the 67-year-old actress, made waves with a spirited speech while accepting the Career Achievement Award at the 2026 Astra Awards.

An online clip of her remarks quickly gained traction, showcasing her candid personality. She addressed her tablemates with a playful remark, saying, “And to the kids at my table who were wondering, ‘Who took that chair?'” Shortly after, she recounted a moment when someone questioned her presence there, replying, “Well, someone came up and said, ‘Who are you and why are you sitting here?'”

In a direct comeback, she added, “Like she said, ‘Forget you!'”

Stone didn’t stop there; she encouraged attendees to utilize their influence for the greater good. “More importantly, I want to say welcome. And this is an opportunity, as my activism began when my fame did,” she stated. “Now that your awareness has emerged, it’s your time to engage, because fame without purpose is empty.”

Reflecting on her iconic role in the 1992 film Basic Instinct alongside Michael Douglas, Stone shared that she wasn’t the first choice for the part, but was the one diligent enough to land it after eight months of preparation.

“As an artist, when you really want something, go for it. You know what matters to you and where you can make an impact,” she advised.

In Basic Instinct, Stone portrays a captivating writer entangled in a murder investigation. She later reprised this role in a 2006 sequel, which although popular at the box office, didn’t fare well with critics.

Looking back in 2023, she acknowledged that playing such a challenging character was, in many ways, transformative. “You have to confront every facet of yourself, and it’s a daunting experience. But it builds incredible confidence,” she mentioned. “Facing those darker aspects of yourself is tough, but it ultimately leads to a robust sense of self-assurance.”

However, Stone expressed skepticism about a reboot of the film, noting, “If you experienced what I did, you might question why anyone would want to recapture that.” She responded to the news with humor, saying, “Good luck with that.”

Stone added, “Honestly, I’ve gone through so much already; it’s almost like, what’s next? Are you going to try and take me down again?”

Reports have surfaced that Amazon MGM Studios’ United Artists acquired the rights for a new Basic Instinct project, with Joe Eszterhas, the original screenwriter, tasked to pen the new script.
