Border Patrol Commissioner Responds to Philadelphia Sheriff
Border Patrol Commissioner Tom Homan reacted strongly on Monday to comments made by Philadelphia Sheriff Rochelle Bilal, who had threatened to arrest Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.
Bilal, during a press conference on Thursday, stated, “We don’t need this smoke. We will bring it.” In response, Homan countered on “The Charlie Kirk Show,” asserting that ICE would not concede. “She can bring the smoke, but we will bring the fire,” he said.
“Her remarks reveal quite a bit about her intelligence. We’re not stopping our work,” Homan expressed. “It’s puzzling that a law enforcement officer, sworn to enforce the law and safeguard the community, would be against collaborating with ICE, which aims to apprehend the most dangerous individuals.” He further stressed that ICE’s mission includes removing threats to public safety from her jurisdiction.
Homan elaborated, stating that individuals arrested often meet two criteria: “First, they’re in the country illegally. Second, they’ve committed serious crimes against American citizens. Some of these are horrific offenses.” He mentioned recent arrests in Minneapolis, including cases of child rape and sodomy.
A recent surge in enforcement actions in Minnesota saw ICE agents apprehend an illegal immigrant involved in both child rape and murder. For details, one can refer to the agency’s press release.
“We’re aiming to make her community safer,” Homan stated. “So, you’re welcome. She can keep making her threats, but we’ll stay focused on those who jeopardize public safety.” He added, “We are actively pursuing these individuals and will continue our mission to enhance community safety.”
Bilal’s comments surfaced following an incident where ICE agents shot and killed 37-year-old Renee Good during an immigration raid in Minneapolis. The sheriff expressed her support for Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner, who pledged to prosecute ICE agents if they commit crimes in his jurisdiction.
“I’m aligned with the DA’s office. If any of them [ICE agents] are in the city and engage in criminal acts, they can’t evade accountability,” Bilal declared.
Democrats have labeled the shooting as a homicide, while the Trump administration claims it was a justified act of self-defense, stating Good accelerated her vehicle as agents surrounded it.
