Cleveland Browns Quarterback Competition Heats Up
As training camp approaches, former NFL wide receiver TJ Houshmandzadeh has weighed in on the Cleveland Browns’ quarterback situation. The team has drafted Dillon Gabriel and Chedure Sanders, joining an already competitive roster that includes Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett. It’s uncertain who will ultimately claim the starting position.
Houshmandzadeh highlighted that he sees two players, in particular, who may stand out in this competition. “The people in the building told me I wasn’t a player,” he remarked, noting that the race seems to be between Kenny Pickett and Dillon Gabriel. However, he raised some questions about Chedure Sanders’ recent performance, asking, “When a report states that Chedur completed 7 of 9 passes, was he going against the starters or just against those who might be cut?”
Flacco has had some success with the Browns before, yet there are doubts about whether he is the long-term solution. Meanwhile, Pickett had a stint as a starter for the Pittsburgh Steelers before being relegated to a backup role with the Philadelphia Eagles last season. Gabriel, who once shone on the field for Oregon, has joined the team, while Sanders, who experienced a concerning drop in the draft, is facing his own issues, including legal troubles since arriving in Cleveland.
With the season opener against the Bengals on the horizon, it’s clear that there are still many decisions to be made regarding the quarterback lineup for the Browns.
