Cleveland Browns’ Quarterback Situation
Chedur Sanders didn’t have much to say—literally—when reporters approached him about his place as the Cleveland Browns’ third-string quarterback. His reaction was more of a playful silence, kind of a pantomime, where he just smiled without actually speaking.
This week, the Browns confirmed that Dillon Gabriel, ahead of Sanders in the lineup, will be taking the field against the Minnesota Vikings. Meanwhile, Joe Flacco, who kicked off the season as the starter for the first four games, has dropped to backup status, and Sanders is now firmly in the third-string position.
It’s been, let’s say, a bit of a whirlwind for the quarterbacks. Gabriel had a decent start before getting sidelined by an injury, completing 14 of 23 passes for 138 yards and two touchdowns. However, it seems the injury has cost him the chance to secure the backup role for the upcoming game.
Flacco hasn’t exactly been lighting it up lately, either. In the last two games, he’s thrown no touchdown passes and racked up three interceptions. His overall stats for the season show 815 passing yards, two scores, and six picks, which isn’t inspiring, to say the least.
Gabriel, though, did manage some action early on, going 3 for 4 with a touchdown and 19 passing yards in the limited snaps he got. It’s a mixed bag—on one hand, you see potential, while on the other, there are concerns about injuries.
Looking ahead, the Browns surprisingly pulled off a win against the Green Bay Packers in week three, so there’s some momentum despite their rocky start at 1-3. They’re set to head to London this weekend, and it’ll be interesting to see how this all plays out against the Vikings.
