Dramatic footage and images from Arizona show a sheriff using a helicopter to save two individuals trapped in a submerged car during heavy rainfall.
This incident took place on Wednesday along State Route 238, located approximately 20 miles west of Maricopa. The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that two elderly people, both in their 80s, found themselves stuck in the vehicle.
In a post on Facebook, the Sheriff’s Office reminded the public of the risks associated with crossing flooded roads, noting the potential for dangerous and often fatal consequences. They urged everyone to stay informed about monsoon storms and to avoid flooded areas, sharing a video of the helicopter arriving at the scene.
A first responder was seen climbing on top of the submerged vehicle in one of the photos released by the Sheriff’s Office, while additional images from the Goodyear Fire Department showed the occupants being rescued.
The Goodyear Fire Department echoed the warnings about driving through flooded areas, suggesting that drivers should turn around instead of risking it.
This rescue coincided with heavy rains affecting several communities across the Southwestern United States, as reported by weather sources. The operational challenges faced during such rescues were acknowledged by the Sheriff’s Office, emphasizing the quick onset and potential life-threatening nature of these situations.
