Shilo Sanders explains why his father Deion didn't want his jersey following his NFL debut.

Shilo Sanders has kicked off his preseason, but there’s still a lot on his plate.

The undrafted safety for the Buccaneers made quite an impact in his preseason debut on Saturday.

Surprisingly, that performance wasn’t enough for his father, Deion Sanders, to want the jersey Shilo wore during the game.

“He didn’t want that,” Shilo, 25, said with a laugh when speaking to the media, as reported by ESPN. “He’s in the Hall of Fame. He’s hoping for something over 30 times greater. So, he didn’t want my jersey, but I’ll give it to my mom instead.”

Shilo, who played for his dad in Jackson and Colorado, mentioned that Deion might accept a game jersey if the conditions were right.

“No, he doesn’t want that. I’d have to get like three interceptions or something for him to be interested,” Shilo joked.

After going undrafted in the NFL Draft this past April, Shilo signed with the Buccaneers as a free agent.

A few weeks back, Deion visited Shilo at training camp just after undergoing surgery to remove his bladder due to a cancerous tumor.

“He played tough,” said Buccaneers coach Todd Bowles on Saturday. “I thought he came in and did well. He had some solid tackles and put pressure on the quarterback. He made some good plays, all in all, so it was impressive.”

Currently, Shilo is slotted as the fourth-string free safety, trailing behind projected starter Tykee Smith.

This performance came just a day after his younger brother, Browns rookie quarterback Shedale Sanders, had a standout debut in the preseason.

Despite being a surprising fifth-round pick in April, Shedale led the team to two touchdowns in a 30-10 victory over the Panthers.

“Yes, law!”
