Critics reacted with alarm this week after the University of Missouri’s Donald W. Reynolds Journalism Institute awarded The Associated Press its “Photo of the Year” award for a photo that included Israeli victims of Hamas. Indicated.
The most controversial photo shows the body of Shani Luke, 23, a dual German-Israeli citizen who was kidnapped and murdered by Hamas, in the back of a truck. A video later showed Palestinians abusing her corpse.
We are shocked to learn that 23-year-old German-Israeli Shani Luk has been confirmed dead.
Kidnapped from a music festival, tortured and paraded through the Gaza Strip by Hamas terrorists, Shani experienced untold horror.
Our hearts were broken.
I hope you have fond memories of her… pic.twitter.com/cs0ii4XH7e

The Associated Press won the “Team Picture Story of the Year” award for its coverage of the “Israel-Hamas War.”accompanying things statement The Reynolds Journalism Institute paper is full of inaccuracies. Hamas claims to have kidnapped “dozens” (actually hundreds). Hamas statistics on the number of deaths in the Gaza Strip were cited without distinguishing between terrorists and civilians. and falsely claimed that Israel attacked a safe humanitarian zone.
Breitbart News reached out to Linden Steele, director of Pictures of the Year International, for comment and received the following response:
RJI and POY strongly condemn the October 7 Hamas attack, and we continue to mourn the loss of innocent lives and human suffering occurring in the ongoing conflict. Reactions to this year’s team picture story express the larger emotions associated with that conflict.
This year, and every year, the contest photos are selected by a panel of professional journalists tasked with identifying compelling representations of the year’s significant news events. While we understand the reaction to photographs, we also believe that photojournalism plays an important role in drawing people’s attention to the harsh realities of war.
The statement follows the fact that the Associated Press has interviewed at least one Stringer with ties to Hamas, who was photographed holding a weapon during the Oct. 7 attack. Not touched.
Another Associated Press reporter allegedly encouraged civilians in the Gaza Strip to participate in attacks and looting inside Israel. The Associated Press denied that Hamas terrorists had foreseen the attack, even though they were equipped with implanted stringers.
