Shocking footage shows an elderly West Virginia man allegedly targeted in a phone scam before pointing a gun at an innocent Uber driver and then fatally shooting him.
Newly released dashcam footage from the car of 61-year-old driver Loretha Hall shows 81-year-old William Bullock of South Charleston pulling a gun on her around 11:20 a.m. on March 25. The video shows him approaching and thrusting at him. WKEF reported.
When she got into her car and tried to leave, Bullock allegedly struggled with her and shot her.
Unbeknownst to Hall, he was the victim of a phone scam in which an incarcerated relative threatened him and his family and demanded money, the report said.
The Clark County Sheriff’s Office told WKEF that the driver was instructed by the same person or an accomplice to pick up a package for delivery to Bullock’s home through the Uber app.
When she arrived, Bullock allegedly demanded that the unarmed woman identify the person who contacted her and took her cell phone when she refused to leave.
“Give me that phone!” he can be heard saying in the harrowing video.
“Stop! If you don’t stop, I’m calling 911!” Hall yells back at Brock.
The man then shot the woman three times before calling 911, officials said. Bullock allegedly told dispatchers that he shot a man who was trying to rob him.
First responders rushed Hall to Miami Valley Hospital, where he died during surgery, WKEF reported.
A sheriff’s office spokesperson said, “Hall, who was medically ill and unarmed, did not threaten or assault Bullock in any way, and instead asked him about a package he had picked up through the Uber app.” Other than that, I didn’t make any demands.”old WHIO in a statement
“At no point during the encounter did Mr. Hall display an active threat, and did the failure to seek assistance from authorities while Mr. Bullock brandished a firearm, during which time did he fire multiple shots at Mr. Hall. Bullock was arrested and charged with murder after firing multiple shots and striking him, the agent added.
A representative for Uber told the magazine: “This incident can only be described as a terrible tragedy.
“Our hearts remain with Loresa’s loved ones as they grieve her sudden death. We are in contact with law enforcement and remain committed to assisting with the investigation.” the official added.
Bullock, who suffered a head wound during the scuffle, is being held on $200,000 bail after pleading not guilty in Clark County Municipal Court last week. Clevland.com reported.
The account that ordered the fateful Uber trip has been banned and the shooting remains under investigation, officials said.
