According to KSNV, Redden said during the hearing that he is “in a better place with himself,” saying he has a better support system and a new job.

“I don't think he should be sent to prison, but if it's the right thing to do for him, then he should do what he has to do,” Redden added, according to the department.

According to KSNV, Redden's attorneys argued for a suspended sentence, citing Redden's previous completion of a probation program as well as his mental health history and background.

But the judge didn't understand that.

“I appreciate that, but I think it's time for him to try something else,” Holthus said, according to the station. “It's impossible with that background.”

At that time, Redden taunted Holthus, ran to the bench, jumped over it and physically attacked the judge.

A man next to the judge and court staff both tried to restrain Redden and subdue him, KSNV said, adding that multiple punches were thrown at Redden.

The alarm was activated and Holthus stood up several minutes later, the department said, adding that Holthus was able to get to her feet and that officers removed her from the courtroom. A court intelligence officer told the station that a judge and court staff were injured in the attack. KSNV said the judge and court staff were taken to the hospital. Both are expected to be fine.

Redden was booked into the Clark County Jail on new charges of assault and assault on a protected person.
