MLB All-Star Game Starters Announced
The voting for the MLB All-Star Game has wrapped up, and the starting players for this year’s event in Atlanta have been revealed.
Notably, two MVP Award winners, Shohei Ohtani and Aaron Judge, have been elected as captains for the American League and National League respectively based on fan votes.
While these two were popular choices, other deserving players also emerged in the fan selections this year.
In the American League, the Detroit Tigers, currently leading with a record of 54-32, have three players in the starting lineup. Gleyber Torres, once a teammate of Judge with the New York Yankees, is making his debut with the Tigers. Joining him in the outfield is Riley Green alongside Javier Baez, who has been one of the more intriguing stories in MLB since joining the Tigers in 2022.
Cal Raleigh from the Seattle Mariners has also been selected as a starter behind the plate for the American League. Raleigh, who has hit 33 home runs in 84 games, boasts a 5.6 WAR, placing him second to Judge this season. This will be the first All-Star selection for Raleigh as a starter and he is the first Mariners catcher to achieve this honor.
Jacob Wilson has had a meteoric rise in the sport, clinching the starting shortstop position at Triest Park in Atlanta. He enters the week with a batting average of .339, just behind Judge in the American League. Meanwhile, Orioles’ Ryan O’Hearn has secured his first-ever All-Star bid.
The remaining American League starters include Vladimir Guerrero Jr. at first base for the Blue Jays and José Ramirez at third base for the Cleveland Guardians.
Switching over to the National League, Chicago Cubs center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong is making his All-Star debut after an impressive season that includes 25 stolen bases and 21 home runs. Meanwhile, New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor will be making a comeback to the All-Star Game after last playing in 2019 when he was still with the Indians.
The Dodgers also boast multiple starters, with Freddie Freeman at first base and Will Smith behind the plate, supporting Ohtani. Other notable National League starters include Ketel Marte from the Arizona Diamondbacks at second base, Manny Machado from the San Diego Padres at third base, Ronald Acuña Jr. from the Atlanta Braves in the outfield, and Kyle Tucker from the Cubs also in the outfield.
