The gunman responsible for the death of a Canadian tourist and injuries to several others at Mexico’s ancient pyramids boasted about sacrificing his victims, as revealed in a video recorded by one of his captives. Julio Cesar Jasso, 27, who reportedly had an obsession with Adolf Hitler, threatened terrified tourists while armed atop the Pyramid of the Moon at Teotihuacan, located near Mexico City. He shouted, “Don’t move or I’ll sacrifice you,” according to reports.
“This was built for sacrifice. Not to visit and take pictures,” he declared in the footage.
Interestingly, Jasso timed his attack to coincide with the 27th anniversary of the Columbine High School shooting and Hitler’s birthday. He is quoted saying, “Look, I keep my word. Two damn Koreans are dead over there. I sacrificed them like dogs,” before adding, “All you motherfuckers from Europe, you’re not coming back.”
In total, seven people were shot at the popular archaeological site, which attracts millions of tourists each year. The full extent of injuries reached 13, although the nature of some injuries remains unclear. It was reported that some individuals fell while trying to escape the gunfire, including one person who had climbed the pyramid.
Victims included a mix of nationalities; six Americans, three Colombians, one Russian, one Brazilian, one Dutch citizen, and one Canadian were among those hospitalized. The ages of the injured ranged from as young as 6 to a 61-year-old. It’s worth noting that Jasso acted alone, ultimately turning the gun on himself. At the scene, authorities recovered a firearm, a knife, and ammunition.
