A gunman opened fire at a news station in California early Tuesday morning, adding to the turmoil of a similar shooting that had occurred just days earlier.
Local authorities are looking into the matter after multiple shots were fired into the KBAK/KBFX newsroom late last Friday night and again on Tuesday morning.
Fortunately, no employees were injured in either of these incidents, although the suspects responsible for both remain unidentified.
Surveillance footage captured a dark vehicle pulling up to the station. It stayed there for a couple of minutes before, from the driver’s side window, several muzzle flashes were visible as the car sped away.
According to the police, ten shots were directed into a conference room and an office last Friday when more gunfire erupted early Tuesday. The news station has stated that they are cooperating fully with the investigation.
“We are fully assisting the Bakersfield Police Department as they look into the shooting incident that occurred at our studios on Friday evening,” said Jessica Belluci from Sinclair, Inc.
She added, “Thankfully, no one was hurt. The safety and well-being of our staff is our top priority, and we are taking appropriate measures to ensure a secure workplace. We are grateful for the efforts of local law enforcement as they continue the investigation.”
Weekend anchor and reporter Shelby Martin expressed her relief on Instagram shortly after the shootings. “I’m so thankful that my colleagues are all safe and nobody was injured in the shooting at the station on Friday,” she wrote. “We will keep you updated both on air and online.”
It remains uncertain whether the two shootings are connected. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the Bakersfield Police Department at (661) 327-7111.
