Shooting at Party in Morgan Hill, California Leaves One Dead, Six Injured

On Saturday night, an incident in rural California resulted in one fatality and six injuries as chaos erupted at a large party due to gunfire, authorities have reported.

The shooting occurred shortly after 10 p.m. in Morgan Hill, located about 25 miles south of San Jose, according to the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office. This party was reportedly unapproved and had been promoted on social media, drawing a crowd of over 300 attendees.

Initially, law enforcement responded to complaints regarding intoxicated individuals in the road, alongside reports of someone throwing bottles at passing cars. However, upon their arrival, they found that shots had been fired, disrupting the party.

Emergency responders administered life-saving measures until medical personnel could take over. Unfortunately, one individual was declared dead at the scene. Several others who sustained gunshot wounds were transported to nearby hospitals.

Authorities have indicated that the shooter likely used a handgun, but details about the suspect remain undisclosed. Homicide detectives believe this shooting may have been an isolated incident, but they expect the investigation to be lengthy and involved.

Santa Clara County Sheriff Robert Johnsen expressed his condolences, stating, “This tragic and senseless act of violence is completely unacceptable. Our hearts go out to the families of the victims, those recovering from their injuries, and the communities affected by this shocking event.” He assured the public that they would work diligently to identify and hold accountable those responsible for this act of violence.

Multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Morgan Hill Police, Gilroy Police, California Highway Patrol, and San Jose Police, were involved in the response to this incident.
