Heroic Actions of Security Guard Honored Following San Diego Shooting
A security guard at a San Diego Islamic center is receiving commendation for his courageous efforts during a mass shooting on Monday that claimed five lives, including two teenage suspects.
According to police, the guard, a father of eight, played a crucial role in saving lives amidst the turmoil at the mosque and nearby schools.
Community members have come forward, identifying him as “Amin.”
A flood of supportive comments has appeared on Amin Abdullah’s social media, with many grieving the loss of a “true hero who sacrificed himself for others.” One user remarked, “He’s the kindest man I’ve ever met,” adding, “May Allah bless you.”
While police have not officially confirmed Abdullah as a victim, they acknowledged that he “was vital” in managing the situation, noting it could have become much worse.
San Diego Police Chief Scott Wall remarked on the effectiveness of security personnel, stating that they helped de-escalate the situation, particularly at the mosque’s entrance. “His actions were heroic and saved lives today,” he said.
Wall also praised the rapid response of police officers and deputies, emphasizing their bravery in confronting danger without hesitation. Officers arrived at the Islamic center just four minutes after the initial emergency call, implementing what police referred to as a swift and “dynamic” response.
“No community should ever endure an incident like this,” Chief Wall expressed.
Authorities have released the identities of five deceased individuals, including the teenage suspects. Additionally, three victims were connected to the Islamic Center.
Police reported that the suspects died from self-inflicted wounds.
During the operation, approximately 50 to 100 police officers entered the Islamic center, searching classrooms, prayer areas, and surrounding facilities.
The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and the investigation is still ongoing.
