Shooting at South Carolina State dormitory leads to campus lockdown

South Carolina State University Lockdown Following Shooting Report

On Saturday night, a reported shooting at South Carolina State University prompted a campus-wide lockdown. The university announced this situation via its website, indicating that shots were fired at Hugine Suites, one of the dormitories located in Orangeburg.

Details concerning any injuries or information about a suspect were not immediately available. The State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is investigating the incident, although there hasn’t been an update from them yet.

The university also stated that all planned events for Sunday have been canceled following the shooting report. In an effort to maintain safety, individuals who are not current students were asked to refrain from entering the campus.

Residents of Hugine Suites were advised to remain indoors, while those not present at the time of the shooting were instructed to report to the Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center. Other students in different dorms were encouraged to return to their rooms, and individuals outside the campus were asked to leave.

Senator Tim Scott mentioned in a post that his office is keeping a close watch on the situation, expressing his concern for the safety of everyone involved. Similarly, Representative Nancy Mace also shared her thoughts, wishing safety for all and encouraging people to follow law enforcement instructions amid the unfolding events.
