Shooting Near Tennessee State University During Homecoming Celebration Leaves 1 Dead, 9 Wounded

One person was killed and nine others were injured in a gunfight near Tennessee State University (TSU) as a crowd gathered for the school's homecoming celebration.

The shooting, which occurred before the school's football game against Eastern Illinois University on Saturday, claimed the life of a 24-year-old man and killed others, including two 12-year-olds and a 14-year-old. I was injured.

“Multiple victims were injured after the shooting at Jefferson Street and 27th.th Avenue North,” the Nashville Metropolitan Police Department said in a statement. “The scene is safe and the victim is in an area hospital.”

The injured boys suffered non-serious injuries and were taken to a local children's hospital.

The cause of the violent exchange is unknown at this time, but Metro Nashville Police Commander Anthony McClain said only that the shooting does not appear to be related to university activities.

“It's unfortunate that a few people ruined it for everyone,” McClain said. “We have to get to the point where this violence stops.”

Additionally, Nashville Police Department spokesman Don Aaron added that the location of the shell casings made it clear that the gunshots were exchanged from across the street.

The Nashville Fire Department was participating in the homecoming festivities and had already arrived at the scene.

“Our crews were right on the scene when the shooting occurred,” said Kendra Roney, a spokeswoman for the Nashville Fire Department.

Ronnie went on to share the experiences of firefighters who were on the scene immediately after the shooting.

“Our personnel told me several moments where they did things like rip off their belts and use it as tourniquets because they didn't have medical bags,” Ronnie added. Ta.

Nashville Police Department spokeswoman Brooke Reese added that authorities believe some of the victims, who are being treated at local hospitals, “may also be involved in the shooting.”

According to an update posted on social media by TSU, there are currently two suspects involved in the shooting: the first is a “black male wearing a green jacket and pants,” and the second is a “male. described as “black people.''
