Shooting Incident at White House Correspondents’ Dinner

A man fired a gun at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, reportedly targeting officials from the Trump administration. The incident occurred Saturday night as he attempted to get past Secret Service agents into the crowded banquet hall.

Identified as Cole Allen, 31, a teacher from Torrance, California, the suspect told police he sought “government officials” but didn’t specify whom, nor did he confirm if President Trump was among them, according to a CBS News report.

Allen allegedly approached a security checkpoint armed with a shotgun, handgun, and several knives before he was subdued. This took place shortly after 8:30 p.m., about 20 minutes post the Trump family’s entrance to the stage.

Authorities have not disclosed a motive for the attack. However, President Trump expressed doubt about any links to the current U.S.-Israel conflict in Iran, stating, “It’s not going to deter us from winning the Iran war. We don’t know if it has anything to do with Iran. As far as we know, I really don’t think so.”

During the chaos, a Secret Service agent was shot in the vest. Trump later mentioned that the agent was hospitalized but was “doing very well.”

Allen now faces charges including the use of a firearm in a violent crime and assaulting a federal officer, as announced by U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, Jeanine Pirro.

The scene was intense, with around 2,500 guests—including the President and First Lady, Vice President J.D. Vance, Cabinet members, and journalists—present. As Secret Service agents rushed the President and First Lady to safety, other attendees sought refuge under tables.

Trump labeled Allen a “sick man,” highlighting the urgency of the situation. The suspect was subsequently taken away in an ambulance.
