Shots fired outside Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen’s home; Secret Service involved

The U.S. Secret Service announced that one of its employees was involved in a shooting outside Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen's home overnight.

Officers assigned to Ms. Yellen's home in Washington, D.C., confronted several people who were trying to open a car door in her neighborhood around 1:30 a.m. According to In response to a statement from Secret Service Press Secretary Anthony Guglielmi.

“At this time there is no evidence that anyone was struck.”

“While personnel fired their duty weapons, there is no evidence at this time that anyone was shot,” he added. “The suspects fled the scene in a sedan, and local police were placed on surveillance.”

He said there was no threat to Yellen during the incident and that she was not harmed.

He concluded that “the officers involved in the shootings are being investigated by the Metropolitan Police Department's Internal Affairs Investigation Team, which investigates all law enforcement officers involved in shootings in the District of Columbia.”

If confirmed by the Senate, Yellen will be replaced by hedge fund manager Scott Bessent. Yellen has been criticized for inflation during her tenure at the Treasury Department. In March, he said he regretted calling inflation “temporary” after persistent inflation hurt Americans' finances.

Mr. Bessent has been criticized by some on the right for his ties to billionaire leftist George Soros, but his supporters praise him as a champion of free markets and an opponent of deficit spending.
