An elderly woman is recovering in hospital after multiple people reportedly opened fire on a New York City street corner where a group of seniors were gathered.
At approximately 6:45 p.m. on Monday, residents living near the intersection of Foster Street and Brooklyn Avenue in Brooklyn reported hearing more than a dozen gunshots coming from outside. 1 witness When he went outside, he saw “about four old ladies and a man” frantically trying to run from the scene, screaming “They’re shooting! They’re shooting!”
It’s possible that the “two groups” were shooting at each other.
“They were in shock,” one man later said of the elderly group.
Sadly, an 84-year-old woman sitting in a walker was hit in the left arm by a stray bullet. One witness took off his shirt to bandage the woman’s wound while waiting for paramedics to arrive. The woman also called her family to tell them what had happened.
Another witness claimed she maintained her sense of humour throughout the incident: “She was like, ‘I’m so sorry. [to her family members]”‘If you had been here, you would have been shot too!'” he recalled.
The woman was taken to Kings County Hospital for treatment. surviveHer condition is reported to be stable. Her name has not been released.
NYPD officers have not yet identified a suspect in the shooting, but they maintain that the 84-year-old woman was not the target of the gunfire. A motive for the shooting, if any, has yet to be made public.
Wab It was reported that “two groups” may have been shooting at each other. As many as 20 shell casings were recovered from the scene.
Witnesses claimed they saw “several people fleeing the intersection” immediately after the shooting. Pix 11 report.
A total of 14 shootings have occurred in the precinct alone so far this year, with 15 people shot and killed.
