Should we be excited or skeptical about Trump’s new AG pick, Pam Bondi?

Conservatives rejoiced when President Trump nominated firebrand Matt Gaetz as his attorney general nominee. They couldn't wait to see him go after a partisan, weaponized Justice Department.

But then, when Gates' controversial past got in the way and his confirmation in the Senate seemed unlikely, he withdrew his nomination so as not to “get in the way” of the job the Trump administration was trying to accomplish.

Gaetz's resignation was certainly disappointing, but there were still other great people available, such as Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and possibly Missouri's Andrew Bailey.

But many were surprised when President Trump named former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi as his next choice.

Who is Pam Bondi? And how should conservatives take the news of her nomination?

Josh Hammer, senior editor at Newsweek and host of “The Josh Hammer Show,” discusses these on “Blaze News Tonight” with Jill Savage and Blaze News Editor-in-Chief Matthew Peterson. answer the questions.

One of the things that paints Pam Bondi in a positive light for conservatives is the reality that: MSNBC is afraid of herThat's because she's competent and knows what she's doing.

While that's certainly good news, not all conservatives are happy with the selection.

“This is something that came out of left field for me,” Peterson tells Hammer.

“I'm not excited about this nomination,” Hammer admits. “Pam Bondi wouldn't have been on my shortlist.”

However, that doesn't mean Bondi is incompetent. “She served two terms as attorney general of the nation's third-largest state” and “served as a prosecutor for 20 years.” Additionally, Bondi is a “Barack Obama-era leader,” meaning “she was one of the state's leaders fighting Obamacare.”

That's “very impressive and something to be celebrated,” Hammer said.

But, he added, “I have very specific concerns regarding Pam Bondi.” “Pam Bondi supported Florida's gun control initiatives, especially in the aftermath of the Parkland shooting. [and] Several measures Rick Scott signed into law related to red flag laws. ”

“She was also, I think, at one point taking home $115,000 a month as a registered foreign agent for the Qatari government. So, at least, I know that that's no longer the case and that she no longer “We want to make sure that she does not qualify. She is essentially an asset of a state sponsor of terrorism,” Hammer said, adding, “I don't think she is.”

When it comes to “forcing”[ing] “Rule of Law” and “Safety”[ing] But he's confident Bondi is “effective.”

Unfortunately, “she's not the kind of person who would come in there like Matt Gaetz and basically wipe out the Osian stable and burn everything down,” he says, but “the Trump Vance administration… As someone who personally hopes that “everything they want to do will be successful, I wish her the best of luck.” ”
