‘Shrinking’ star Jessica Williams jokes ‘Derek 2.0’ is ‘really stupid’

Will Liz give him a stone too?

“Shrinking” Season 2 introduced several new characters, including a love interest to Jessica Williams, who plays Gaby.

Damon Wayans Jr. made his debut on the Apple TV+ comedy in episode 4, “Made You Look.”

After Derek, played by Ted McGinley, gives some words of encouragement to Brian, played by Michael Urie, along with Liz, played by Christa Miller, Gaby says, “Oh, I want Derek.”

“Then the biggest coincidence ever happened. This is my best buddy from my old job, Derek,” he replied as the new “Derek 2.0” appeared.

Williams, 35, joked to the Post that giving the characters the same name was, well, stupid.

“That's stupid. So stupid!” she cried. “I love it. Yes, it's great. It's really great. He's the best. I'm happy for this season. He's so funny and he's like, 'What do you want?' Let's do it. Let's try it, let's go. ”

Their new relationship was written after Gabby ended their Friendship relationship with Jimmy (Jason Segel).

“I love working with Jason. He's the kind of person I love to work with. He's a very generous actor, a very thoughtful actor. They're just here to play,” she said.

“My love language is spending time with people, telling jokes, and listening and responding. I like that about all actors. And they're really good at taking it and eating it and giving it back to me. And that's what I love most about it.”

“Shrinking” was immediately renewed for season 3 in October. Creator Bill Lawrence always envisioned the series to be divided into three chapters, with season two focusing on forgiveness. But he told the Post he could play a fourth season if that happens.

In season 2, Wayans Jr. was joined by co-creator Brett Goldstein as Louis. Viewers learned that Louis was the drunk driver in the accident that killed Jimmy's wife Tia (Rylan Bowden).

“If you go through some kind of tragic event with your family or friends and we're all just a few steps away from it, you can't move forward until you somehow get over that hurdle of forgiveness.” ” he told Lawrence and the Post. “And I think sometimes people walk away. It might be like a daughter forgiving her father for dropping the ball in the worst year of his life, but not necessarily forgiving others. Sometimes it means forgiving yourself.”

He added: “Some of the saddest things in my family are the rifts that still exist.”

As Jimmy and his daughter Alice (Lukita Maxwell) continue to deal with the aftermath of Tia's death, Alice and Brian bond with Louis. When Jimmy finds out, he secretly goes to Louis and tells him to cut ties with Alice.

“Shrinking” also stars Harrison Ford, Luke Tenney, Devin Kawaoka, Rachel Stubbington and Wendie Malick.

“I feel like I'm just playing around. So whenever I do that, even when our characters are arguing, it's really fun to do it. I feel like there are no boundaries. “I do,” Williams told the Post about working with the cast.

“Shrinking” was picked up for a third season. The Season 2 finale will air on December 24, 2024. Apple TV+

“I like the joy of working. I like feeling like I'm having fun, because that's Gabby,” she continued. “Now that we understand the dynamics of Season 1, we're just going to work on it more. So it's really sweet.”
