4 times PGA TOUR Winner Kim Si-woo made Royal Troon history by achieving the first hole-in-one at this year’s British Open.
After a fairly up-and-down day in milder weather than the first two rounds, Kim ace the 238-yard par-3 17th hole, dubbed “Rabbit” on the Royal Troon website.

According to the tour, it was the first hole-in-one on the 17th hole in 10 tournaments. British Open Played at Royal Troon.

“I wasn’t happy with the 17th hole on Thursday,” Kim told the tournament’s website. “I double-putted and then three-putted yesterday. I finally got a hole-in-one so I guess I’m happy now.”
Kim’s ace was also the longest hole-in-one in British Open history, surpassing the previous record set by Frank Lickliter II, who hit a 212-yard ace at Royal Lytham and St. Annes in 2001, according to Reuters.
“My caddie said I should hit it hard with a 3-iron,” Kim continued, “so I did just that and made good contact right away. I saw the ball go over the fringe and I knew it was probably within 20 feet.”

“When I picked the tee up off the ground and walked back to the bag, people were screaming at me,” he added. “I didn’t realize the ball was in the hole.”
Kim’s best result at the British Open was a top-15 finish in 2022.

He finished the third round five strokes behind par, 13 behind leader Shane Lowry.
