Trump’s Proposal for Israel-Hamas Peace Deal Draws Praise
Recently, Brett McGurk, a former associate assistant under Biden, endorsed Donald Trump’s initiative aimed at resolving the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict, which has persisted for nearly two years.
Trump’s plan suggests transforming Gaza into a more stable and productive area, aiming to support its residents in collaboration with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. During an appearance on “CNN News Central,” McGurk commented that this proposal represents a “great step forward” towards achieving peace in the Middle East, urging all parties, especially Hamas, to consider this deal.
“It doesn’t matter what perspective you hold regarding this conflict; I’m appealing to Hamas to engage with this proposal. This represents a path to end the war,” McGurk articulated. “Hamas must play a role in Gaza, and while they might initially resist, this approach is essential for improving life for Palestinians. It’s evident that this is a significant advancement for the situation.”
McGurk further praised the efforts of the team behind the plan, noting that it builds on initiatives from the previous administration. He expressed confidence in Netanyahu’s involvement, highlighting the significance of the plan’s support.
If an agreement is reached, all military operations are set to halt, and hostages—regardless of their status—would be released. Gaza would be governed by a temporary committee composed of skilled Palestinians and international experts, operating without political influence, and they wouldn’t be compelled to leave the area.
Netanyahu indicated the intention to restore “security responsibility” in accordance with the objectives of Israel’s military efforts.
“All our hostages, whether alive or deceased, will return home shortly. Hamas will be disarmed, and Gaza will be revamped. Israel will maintain its security responsibilities for the foreseeable future.”
