The ongoing dispute between Riley Gaines and Simone Biles took an interesting turn on Sunday when older social media posts from the gymnasts resurfaced.
In a 2017 tweet, Biles expressed relief that men weren’t competing in women’s gymnastics, saying, “Ah, good things don’t compete with girls, he’ll take all the gold medals!!” This was posted shortly after the 2017 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Canada, which Biles did not attend. However, American gymnasts Morgan Heard and Jade Carrey earned medals, with both securing gold in individual all-arounds. Meanwhile, China’s Xio Ruoteng claimed gold in the male category.
Gaines, who hosts the podcast “Gaines for Girls” on Outkick, responded to the situation. She remarked, “When your past self completely undermines your current meaningless argument, don’t you hate it?” addressing Biles on X. “How does Simone in 2025 reconcile with the fact that Simone in 2017 was ‘really sick bully’ by his standards?”
The conflict intensified over the weekend when Biles targeted Gaines in a critical post linked to concerns about transgender athletes in Minnesota High School softball. Biles wrote, “@riley_gaines_You’re really sick. It’s all about this campaign because you lost the race. Straight losers. We should either find ways to lift the trans community and make sports inclusive or create a new path where trans athletes feel safe.” She went on to say, “But instead… you bully them… Certainly, one thing is that no one in the sport is safe with you!!!!”
This latest exchange has drawn significant backlash in recent days, adding fuel to an already heated debate.
