The NFL is saying, “Ah!” Right now.
Football fans can thank Homer J. Simpson for not giving the league the flexibility to stage Week 14's “Monday Night Football” game between the Bengals and the Cowboys. According to Jay Morrison of Bengals Talk.
Rather, it's the alternate cast of The Simpsons, scheduled to air during that night's game, that continues to have lackluster contests in the prime-time slot.
The matchup will feature a fully animated alternate television broadcast featuring characters from “The Simpsons,” and much of the “painting, narration and other work” has already been completed, Morrison reported.
That made it nearly impossible for Disney-owned network ESPN to redo elements in time for another matchup on Dec. 9.
The alternate broadcast, which will be broadcast on ESPN Plus and Disney Plus, was first announced late last month.
Simpsons voice actors Hank Azaria, Nancy Cartwright, Dan Castellaneta, Julie Kavner, and Yeardley Smith will appear in pre-recorded skits that will air during the broadcast, including Stephen A. Smith ESPN stars such as , Peyton and Eli Manning are also scheduled to perform. “Terrible Announcement” reported.
ESPN created a “Toy Story” themed alternate cast for the NFL last season and a “Big City Greens” alternate cast for the NHL earlier this year.
Alternative broadcast trailer The movie was released on a Monday afternoon and featured a game in which Bart and the Bengals faced Homer and the Cowboys.
“Football fans and Simpsons geeks finally gathered to watch the game live from Springfield,” the narrator said in the video.
“The Simpsons” became part of Disney in 2019 after the media giant acquired 20th Century Fox.
The Cowboys' season has been on the decline for several weeks, with less interest in the game after the Bengals lost to the Chargers on Sunday night, falling to 4-7.
So given the lackluster showdown left in prime time, the NFL will likely mutter, “Eat the shorts.”
