Mexican authorities report changes in fentanyl production and distribution as the Chapitos faction of the Sinaloa cartel moves its operations closer to Texas.
The latest development comes as Mexico’s federal government began seizing several tons of fentanyl precursors shipped in the state of Nuevo Leon. The seizure comes as a faction of the Sinaloa cartel is moving its research labs from Sinaloa to the Monterrey metropolitan area.
Recently, the Mexican Navy and the Federal Health Risk Protection Commission (COFEPRIS) reported the seizure of over 120 tons of various chemical precursors from Sinaloa Cartel companies. The seizures come amid a series of enforcement actions in Mexico’s Sinaloa and Nuevo Leon states. Authorities valued the seized chemicals at 87 million pesos (approximately US$5.5 million) in current terms, Mexico’s El Universal announced. report.
