Halsey began to gain recognition as a musician in 2014, signing with Astralwerk in the same year, and released her first studio album, Badlands, in 2015.

Before her success in the music industry, Halsey was homeless and has previously admitted that she nearly turned to sex work to make ends meet.

“When I was a teenager living in New York City, while my friends were picking out decorations for their dorms, I was wondering whether I should let a stranger in to pay for my next meal,” she said at the Ending Youth Homelessness: A Charity Gala to Benefit My Friend’s Place in 2019.

“It’s not because I did anything wrong. It’s not because there was anything wrong with me or that my parents didn’t love me, because they did,” she said, “But it was a series of unfortunate circumstances that put me in that situation. This can happen to anyone.”
