Olivia Rodrigo Criticizes Abortion Bans as Pro-Control
Pop star Olivia Rodrigo has voiced her strong belief that abortion bans are more about controlling women than about protecting life. She emphasized that the motives behind these laws largely revolve around the regulation of women’s bodies.
In discussions with legal and policy professionals, including Autumn Katz, Nimra Chaudhry, and Meetra Mehdzadeh, she talked extensively with Nancy Northup, CEO of the Reproductive Rights Center. They focused on critical issues like severe pregnancy complications and the efforts to restrict medications such as mifepristone, which is one of the two primary medications used in medical abortions.
According to reports, anti-abortion advocates continue to seek further limitations on this drug, despite considerable evidence backing its safety and efficiency. It’s worth noting that abortions performed through medication represent about 63 percent of total abortions in the United States.
Rodrigo’s comments came ahead of her upcoming all-female music festival scheduled for August 29. This event aims to raise funds for various progressive organizations, including Planned Parenthood, and will showcase artists such as Stevie Nicks and others.
The festival, called the Daisy Chain Fields Festival, will take place at the Great Park in Irvine, California, featuring performances from Rodrigo herself, along with Chapel Lawn, Doechee, Katseye, Mitsuki, and others. Notable guest appearances will include Karen O, Stevie Nicks, and Sarah McLachlan.
Rodrigo expressed her excitement about the festival in a recent post, stating, “I couldn’t be more excited to share the news with you all. I’ve dreamed of doing this festival for years and I’m so happy it’s finally happening!!” She highlighted that the event will have an all-female lineup and that all proceeds will support charities focused on the advancement of women and girls.
She further remarked, “The lineup is really crazy and full of my heroes and friends. We strongly believe that joy, community, and music can be a force for meaningful change, and we hope this festival will be just that. We can’t wait to scream, dance, and sing along with you on August 29th!”
