Olivia Rodrigo’s All-Female Music Festival
Olivia Rodrigo has announced that her upcoming music festival will focus on “the advancement and advocacy of women and girls.”
Interestingly, the festival seems to align closely with support for pro-abortion and race-based advocacy groups.
“I’ve been dreaming of doing this festival for years,” Rodrigo expressed.
Plans for Change
Rodrigo gained attention about two years ago when she collaborated with a national abortion network to provide emergency contraception at her concert events. Following the publicity, her PR team urged the organization to halt the distribution of a package that included messaging related to abortion funding.
Now, at 23, she’s taking her advocacy up a notch by organizing her own festival, aiming to drive “meaningful change.”
Sharing her excitement, she wrote, “I couldn’t be more thrilled to announce this! I’ve been looking forward to this festival for years, and it’s finally happening!”
She mentioned that “100 percent of the net proceeds will go to charities focusing on the empowerment of women and girls.”
These organizations include Planned Parenthood and various abortion advocacy groups, as well as the Center for Reproductive Rights and the National Institute of Reproductive Health. They assert their commitment to “improving access to abortion and contraception and advancing health equity.”
Support for Racial Equity
In addition to abortion advocacy, the festival also seeks support from race-centered organizations like the Black Mamas Matter Alliance and the Johns Hopkins Center for Indigenous Health.
The National Domestic Workers Alliance is among the partners as well. This organization primarily supports “women of color,” including “immigrants, mothers, and low-wage earners.”
They’ve also rolled out a specific initiative for “black domestic workers.”
The festival is set to take place in Irvine, California, this August, featuring artists like Doechii, Chapel Lawn, Sarah McLachlan, and Stevie Nicks as special guests.
Young Hollywood indicated that the festival’s purpose is to “bring women together” in a “safe and welcoming environment” that encourages support for “queer and women’s communities” by donating funds to relevant charities.
Past Advocacy
In 2021, Rodrigo met President Joe Biden at the White House to promote COVID-19 vaccinations among American youth. She emphasized the importance of getting vaccinated for those aged 16 to 25.
At the time, she expressed being “honored and beyond humbled” to help spread awareness about youth vaccination.
