Sister of Minnesota Timberwolves player Naz Reid killed by gunfire, according to prosecutors

The sisters of Naz Reid, a forward for the Minnesota Timberwolves, were fatally shot in New Jersey early Saturday morning, according to law enforcement.

Tora Reid, aged 28, was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds around 11 a.m. near the exit of her apartment in Jackson Township, as reported by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.

Authorities swiftly apprehended Shaquille Green, who is believed to have been dating 29-year-old Toraya. Both resided in Jackson Township, although it’s not entirely clear if they shared an apartment, according to the prosecutor’s office.

Green now faces charges of murder in connection to Toraya’s death, as well as illegal possession of a firearm.

Naz Reid, at 26, recently secured a $125 million contract extension and has built a strong following. He has often spoken about how Toraya played a pivotal role in his life, akin to a parent, during their childhood in Asbury Park.

In a prior conversation, he remarked, “She treats us like our parents,” highlighting her significant influence on their upbringing.

Their youngest sister, Yakahiya, has asked for privacy and respect for the family, expressing disbelief that such a tragic event could happen. She shared her struggle to comprehend the situation, stating, “We could never imagine ourselves in such a situation…but here we are. I am facing something unimaginable.”

Yakahiya also expressed profound grief, saying, “I will never overcome this. I will never forgive God to take you out of me.”

All three sisters attended Roselle Catholic High School in northern New Jersey. Naz has discussed how while he pursued basketball, his father had a preference for softball and coached soccer.

Green remains in custody at the Ocean County Jail as he awaits a detention hearing.
