A shootout near a beach resort in Ensenada, Baja California, resulted in the deaths of six cartel gunmen. This incident follows a series of warnings issued to FBI Director Kash Patel by cartel groups, claiming they would target American citizens.
The clash took place early on Monday morning along the highway connecting Ensenada and San Quintin. A local resident heard gunfire and promptly called 911. When authorities arrived, they discovered a white Chevrolet pickup truck with multiple bullet holes. Upon closer inspection, they found four men inside, all shot.
In addition, another vehicle was found ablaze on the roadside, with two more bodies within it.
This gunfight highlights ongoing violence linked to a fierce turf war between different factions of the Sinaloa Cartel, active across various regions in Mexico. Reports indicate this conflict escalated following the 2024 arrest of cartel leader Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada, orchestrated by the Chapitos faction. They allegedly tricked him into a meeting with plans to capture him and deliver him to U.S. authorities, igniting a brutal warfare within the cartel that has led to numerous murders and disappearing persons.
The recent violence in Baja California occurred shortly after reports emerged about cartel threats directed at the FBI, claiming retaliation against U.S. citizens for actions taken by Mexican law enforcement under the previous administration’s influence.
