Secret Service Agents Suspended After Trump Assassination Attempt

According to various reports, six Secret Service agents were suspended in relation to an attempted assassination of President Donald Trump last year.

The agents, including both supervisors and regular agents, received suspensions ranging from 10 to 42 days, as noted by ABC News.

A man named Thomas Matthew Crooks, who was shot by a Secret Service sniper after firing at Trump from a rooftop, tragically caused the death of firefighter Corey Comperatore on July 13, 2024, and injured several others. At the time, Trump was addressing his supporters, completely unaware of the immediate danger.

Matthew Quinn, the Deputy Director of the Secret Service, remarked, “We’re not going to get out of here,” indicating a focus on understanding the root causes of the incident and addressing the flaws in the security protocols. He shared these thoughts in a conversation with CBS News.

The Secret Service has not commented on the situation.

Kimberly Cittle, who was the director of the Secret Service during the incident, resigned just ten days after the assassination attempt. Trump later expressed satisfaction with the FBI’s investigation into the matter when he spoke with Reagan Reese from Daily Caller on July 5, saying he was “very pleased” with their progress.

In a tweet, Trump maintained his satisfaction with the investigation, despite earlier expressing concerns about its progress. He previously criticized the FBI, suggesting they were falling short.

A review panel appointed by the Department of Homeland Security discovered in October that the Secret Service had not been operating at the necessary elite level to fulfill its critical mission. The panel noted that the agency had become bureaucratic and complacent, despite facing increased risks and advancements in technology.
