A 12-year-old girl and her 40-year-old mother were among the six people injured in a brazen shooting inside a Bronx convenience store Monday afternoon, with parents reporting they were used as human shields by a “despicable” target. Ta. Police personnel.
Interim Commissioner John Chell said in a news conference at the scene that two men with guns opened fire on rivals outside a store at 3544 White Plains Road in Gun Hill around 4:50 p.m. said he was shot in the abdomen.
“Some of the members of this group ran into the store, ran up to the counter and were hit by gunfire. One of the targets, the one who wasn't hit, grabbed his mother… as a shield, and the mother was shot once in the abdomen. ” said Chell.
“Imagine a mother and daughter facing off against a counter, and two targets come in and they collide, and the mother turns around getting shot,” Chell added. .
The girl was shot in the leg, but the coward who used her mother as a shield was not injured.
Chell told reporters that four men, aged between 18 and 21, suffered gunshot wounds to their arms and legs.
The NYPD chief condemned the “callous” shooting.

Officials told the Post that all victims were taken to area hospitals and are in stable condition.
Both gunmen fled and have not yet been captured.
Investigators told The Post they are looking into whether the suspects posted anything on social media shortly before the attack.
