Skylar Diggins’ Future with the Sky in Doubt

It seems Skylar Diggins might be facing a change in his role with the Sky, and honestly, he doesn’t seem thrilled about it.

While the team has yet to announce anything formally regarding their starting lineup or Diggins’ potential move to the bench, he took to social media to share his thoughts and perhaps a hint of frustration about what’s going on.

“Coming off the bench???? Cool,” he expressed on his Instagram Story.

He further elaborated, saying, “And the funny thing about all this… is that I was very quiet. I was very good and quiet. I was very good and quiet.” This reflective moment was captured in a video he posted.

The possibility of Diggins moving to the bench isn’t confirmed, but it’s undoubtedly a strange position for the 35-year-old veteran.

This season, Diggins began every one of the Sky’s 19 games and has a record of starting 341 out of 354 games throughout his WNBA career.

The Sky are struggling, with a tough 3-13 season and an overall record of 6-14. Throughout this rough patch, Diggins hasn’t been at his best.

Averaging only 14.2 points per game while shooting just 39.2 percent from the field, these numbers are his lowest since 2016.

In a recent 107-99 defeat to the Aces, he managed a mere 2-of-11 shooting performance, scoring seven points. Earlier this season, in a 29-point loss to the Sun, he only scored three points.

Diggins, the No. 3 pick in the 2013 draft, has averaged 16.3 points over his career and boasts six All-WNBA nominations, along with seven All-Star selections.

After two seasons with the Storm, he joined the Sky this offseason on a two-year deal.

It looks like 37-year-old Courtney Vandersloot might step into the starting role in place of Diggins. Vandersloot recently returned from a torn ACL.

Having started for the Sky in 2025 prior to her injury, she has averaged 8.7 points this year, though she has started on the bench during three tournaments.
