The transgender individual who was arrested alongside Morgan Geyser, known for her involvement in the Slender Man stabbing case, apparently climbed through a window into Geyser’s group home to see her. This information comes from various records detailing their interactions.
Chad Mecca, aged 43, was apprehended with Geyser, who is now 23, at a truck stop in Posen, Illinois. This arrest occurred late Sunday, just over a day after Geyser had removed her ankle monitor with scissors and fled from a group home in Madison, Wisconsin, which is more than 240 miles away.
Mecca is identified as a male in arrest records, while Geyser identifies as a transgender woman. A series of past arrests, including domestic violence, have been reported, according to court documents.
Mecca’s arrest history involves charges of disorderly conduct and domestic violence, stemming from an incident in February last year in Rock County, Wisconsin. He apparently pled no contest to the disorderly conduct charge, resulting in a $50 fine, while the battery charge was dismissed.
The friend of Geyser, who has messy blue hair and was seen wearing a low-cut pink top, also has a series of traffic violations to her name, such as driving with a suspended license, running a red light, and not wearing a seatbelt.
Mecca reportedly met Geyser at a church in Madison. While the nature of their relationship remains unclear, it’s evident that Mecca was dedicated enough to sneak into the group home to visit her, even as local authorities debated her living situation.
“I have said many times, [Mecca] climbed through the window of the group home to sneak in and visit her,” reads part of the arrest report detailing their capture in Posen.
When questioned about the ankle monitor, Geyser mentioned that she had cut it off and noted a fleeting plan to possibly head to Nashville, Tennessee, although details surrounding this intention were vague.
Reports suggest that Mecca was dissatisfied with the care Geyser received at the group home. She was transferred in March despite health officials having raised concerns about her needing to be in a psychiatric facility.
The police report stated that both individuals decided to leave the group home because Geyser felt she was being mistreated and Mecca could not visit her.
They took a Greyhound bus from Wisconsin to Chicago and then traveled to the south side of the city to catch another bus to Posen. They eventually ran out of funds and stopped at a gas station.
Mecca faced charges for trespassing and interfering with identification but was released afterward.
Geyser was wanted under a nationwide extradition warrant and had a court appearance scheduled for Tuesday.
In 2014, Geyser, along with another girl, Anissa Weir, was involved in a brutal attack on a classmate, Peyton Leutner, where she was stabbed 19 times. Geyser pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity and spent several years in psychiatric care before being transferred to a group home in March.
