High-Speed Chase In Texas Ends in Carjacking

On Thursday, two suspected human smugglers led law enforcement on a wild chase reaching speeds of 100 miles per hour in Texas. The pursuit ended dramatically when they jumped out of their vehicle, one of them reportedly carjacking a civilian at gunpoint shortly after, according to authorities.

Video footage from U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Air and Marine Operations captured this high-speed incident along Interstate 10 in Fabens.

Officials followed closely as the vehicle sped along the highway until it was ultimately disabled, prompting both individuals to flee on foot.

During the chase, radio communications indicated that a spike strip may have punctured the vehicle’s front tire. Not long after, the vehicle slowed, and two men exited, running away.

“Bail out, bail out, bail out!” a voice can be heard calling out in the footage. One suspect was swiftly apprehended by a member of the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Meanwhile, the other suspect attempted to escape and allegedly commandeered a civilian’s car at gunpoint before being captured too.

As of now, details about the number and identities of those possibly being smuggled have not been disclosed.

CBP Commissioner Rodney Scott shared his appreciation for the coordination among various agencies involved, posting on social media about the high-speed nature of the pursuit and the risks smugglers take, stating, “Smugglers risk lives for profit. We will keep taking them down.”

This incident occurred near a Speedway gas station around 9:16 a.m., as reported by KFOX14. Both suspects will likely face charges related to human smuggling and evading arrest.
