Snapchat can put users’ AI images of faces in ‘My Selfie’ ads

Snapchat reserves the right to use users' photos in ads. As part of our Terms of Use The company announced its “My Selfie” tool, which allows people and their friends to create artificial intelligence-generated images based on their selfies.

“My Selfie is used to power Generative AI, Cameo and other experiences featuring you on Snapchat, including ads,” a pop-up in the Snapchat app says.

“My Selfie does this using your image and information.”

Pop-up, 404 Media reported.gives users the option to “delete their selfies and change their friends' advertising and permission settings.”

A support page on Snapchat's website states that the “My Selfie” feature allows users to “take a selfie with your Snap Camera or select an image from your Camera Roll.”

“These images are used to understand your appearance and allow you, Snap, and your friends to generate new images of you,” according to the app.

To disable this option, users must manually turn off the feature that is enabled by default when the app starts.

A Snapchat user posted on Reddit, claiming that they had discovered their image had been uploaded to Snapchat and used in an advertisement for a site called yourdreamdegree.com.

“The photo used in the ad is clearly an AI, but it's clearly me.” A Reddit user said:

“My face, my hair, the clothes I'm wearing and even some of my lamps and paintings hanging on the wall in the background. I have no idea how they got hold of my photos to create this ad.”

Another Reported by Reddit user “I was so surprised to see my face in what appeared to be an ad for Cameos Selfie.”

A Snapchat spokesperson told 404 Media that the company “reserves the right in the future to offer advertising based on 'My Selfie,' which allows Snapchatters to see themselves in a shared image.”

“As explained in our onboarding modal, Snapchatters have full control over this and can turn it on or off at any time in their My Selfie settings.”

The company said advertisers “do not have access to Snapchat users' genetic information.”[erative] “AI Data in all its forms, including My Selfies.”

Snapchat also said that users' personal information is protected from advertisers.

“Snap does not currently use MySelfie for advertising,” a company representative told 404 Media, but the company did not disclose how it might be able to serve ads to users in the future without making their facial data available to advertisers.
