Snoop Dogg shares that his grandson was puzzled by the same-sex couple with a baby in 'Lightyear'

Rapper Snoop Dogg recently expressed criticism towards LGBTQ+ representation in children’s films during an episode of Sarah Fontenott’s podcast, “Give It.” His comments centered around the 2022 film “Lightyear,” which features same-sex couples. While watching the movie with his grandchildren, Snoop recounted a conversation he had with his grandson, who was curious about how a woman could have a baby with another woman. He reflected on that moment, saying, “I didn’t come for this.” It’s a tricky subject, for sure.

Snoop’s remarks have sparked backlash on social media, especially as he’s set to perform at the Australian Football League (AFL) Grand Finals soon. Some have pointed out the film has already faced criticism from conservatives over its LGBTQ+ themes, particularly a same-sex kiss. In light of these discussions, Snoop shared, “I was just there to watch a movie about sleeping. It awakened me.” Not exactly what he expected, I suppose.

Interestingly, reports suggest that Pixar has even edited out LGBTQ elements from their upcoming film, “Elio,” which only adds to the controversy. Meanwhile, Chris Evans, who voiced Buzz Lightyear, previously defended the film against its critics, remarking that some people are resistant to change and that they’ll eventually become obsolete. It’s a reminder that while change can be uncomfortable, it’s often necessary for growth.

So, where does all this leave us? Disney has taken heat before, with some claiming that their stories push an “anti-white propaganda” agenda. In the end, these discussions seem to highlight the ongoing tug-of-war between traditional values and new perspectives in storytelling, particularly for younger audiences. A complicated mix, indeed.
