Controversy in Upper East Side Moms Group
A recent post in a popular Facebook group for Upper East Side mothers has stirred quite a bit of debate. An anonymous member, it turns out, sought advice on an unusual topic: flying privately to his son’s travel soccer game.
The post began with a somewhat uncertain tone, mentioning, “My son is joining a traveling soccer team. He has never flown commercially, and I haven’t either in quite some time.” The poster was grappling with the idea of flying privately while his son travelled with the team, noting that many parents typically act as chaperones. He even considered hiring his son’s former nanny for that purpose.
“Am I a bad parent?” was the question posed, as he expressed a desire to support his son but also a wish for comfort during the trip. He shared that he preferred to stay at a Holiday Inn rather than a coach, feeling that flying commercially might actually be better for his son.
The group, boasting over 35,000 members, responded with a mix of humor, skepticism, and outright disbelief. Some comments included phrases like “Will you adopt me?” and “You’re the worst.” One user recalled a similar experience with a friend’s team, discussing how private flights seemed to interfere with playing time.
The post was characterized by some as “anger fodder,” drawing a wide array of responses. Others shared their own experiences with private flights, joking about the difficulties of reverting to commercial after having flown privately.
A parody response even humorously claimed: “My son is on a traveling baking team competing in the Great British Bake Off.” This added another layer of absurdity to the ongoing commentary.
TikToker Bryce Gruber caught wind of the post, sharing it on his platform and further igniting the conversation.
This isn’t the first time the Upper East Side mom group has made headlines. Its counterpart, the UES Mamas, previously grabbed attention after a mysterious temporary shutdown, much to the amusement of local mothers. Since then, the group has tackled various contentious topics, from local politics to offbeat parenting advice.
