Social media pokes fun at Jazz Chisholm's disappointing Home Run Derby: 'Flyout derby'

Jazz Chisholm Jr.’s Tough Night at the Home Run Derby

Jazz Chisholm Jr. had a challenging evening during the Home Run Derby, but if you were looking through social media afterward, you might have found yourself laughing instead.

After Chisholm hit just three home runs, which unfortunately knocked him out in the first round, the online jokes started rolling in.

MLB’s official social media account shared a post highlighting his performance with the caption, “Jazz Chisholm Jr. was here for the atmosphere,” which only fueled the humor.

It’s clear he wasn’t there to take home the trophy, but with a smile on his face, maybe he really was just enjoying the moment.

His three home runs were indeed the lowest in the first round, while Matt Olson managed to hit 15, which feels, well, pretty substantial in comparison.

It’s worth noting that Chisholm’s performance, while underwhelming, wasn’t the worst in derby history. In fact, back in 2012, Robinson Cano didn’t hit a single homer during the contest—especially surprising since he had just won the previous season.

During his attempts at the plate, Chisholm swung 38 times for those three homers. Some folks jokingly referred to it as a “Flyout Derby” or the “Double Down the Line Derby,” which is a bit of a dig if we’re being honest.

One social media user even pointed out that Marlins outfielder Kyle Stalker and Chisholm ended up with the same number of home runs over the last few days, which is… not exactly a great comparison for Chisholm.

Amid the jokes, Yankees manager Aaron Boone, always ready to defend his players, remarked that he thought Chisholm had actually put on the best show of the night. That comment, of course, sparked more laughter online.

Chisholm may not have had the best outing, but he’s had a decent season overall with 17 home runs. So, clearly, he can perform when it counts.

In a twist of irony, as others poked fun, a user suggested that they should have put Jasson Dominguez out there during Chisholm’s turn, so he could get some practice reps.
