Republican Senator Ted Cruz of Texas said the Democratic Socialists of America congratulated Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, a Democrat, as Vice President-elect Kamala Harris’ running mate because he is “proud” to stand with “radical” anti-Semites and leftists.
“There’s a reason why the Democratic Socialists admire him,” Cruz said on the “Verdict” podcast Wednesday.
“There’s a reason. You know who tweeted praise for it within minutes of it being announced that he would be vice president? Ilhan Omar. There was a picture of her next to him saying this is a great choice. And, you know, she’s from Minnesota. She represents the radical wing of Minnesota. He’s her governor and they’re very strong allies. He’s proud to stand with a radical anti-Semite, Israel-hating radical leftist like Ilhan Omar. And that says a lot.”
Harris announced Walz as her running mate on Tuesday morning, a move that was praised by left-leaning Rep. Omar and the Democratic Socialists of America celebrated the choice.

“Harris’ selection of Waltz as her running mate showed the world that DSA and the alliance of the left are a force to be reckoned with. Through collective action, DSA and the American left more broadly have made it clear that change is needed. DSA members have organized in workplaces and unions, reorganizing the labor movement in support of Palestinian liberation,” the Democratic Socialists of America said. Harris’ VP nominee faces new criticism as ‘bizarre’ comparison to socialism resurfaces
The DSA has allegedly pressured Democrats to exclude other candidates, including some with “direct ties to the Israel Defense Forces.” Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, who was said to be one of the front-runners for Harris’ running mate, volunteered in the Israel Defense Forces as a youth. The DSA blames Israel for Hamas’ attack on Israel in October, sparking the ongoing war.

“The Uncommitted Movement, in which DSA members played a key role nationally and in several states, pressured the Democratic establishment to select a new candidate and to withdraw a running mate who had direct ties to the Israel Defense Forces and would have vehemently supported the ongoing genocide in Palestine,” DSA continued in the X thread.
Cruz went on to say that the Democratic Party’s left wing did not pressure Harris to choose Waltz as her running mate, arguing that the two share similar “radical” views.

“Kamala Harris didn’t pick Tim Walz because she was being intimidated by the left. She picked Tim Walz because that’s who she is,” he said.
“She’s far-left. You know, one nonpartisan source rated her as the most liberal senator in the nation. Similarly, (Waltz) is one of the most liberal governors in the nation. I think Kamala Harris and Tim Walz and Ilhan Omar are in agreement with each other. They’re far-left.”
