ICE Arrests Somalian Immigrant with Criminal History Linked to Politicians

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has taken into custody Abdul Dahir Ibrahim, an undocumented Somali immigrant who has faced convictions related to fraud and has connections with various well-known Minnesota politicians, including former Democratic vice presidential candidate Gov. Tim Walz.

Ibrahim has had a deportation order against him since 2004, and all of his attempts to appeal this order have failed. His criminal record includes fraudulently obtaining asylum and welfare in Canada prior to entering the U.S. He was also found guilty in Dakota County District Court in January 2002 for giving false information to law enforcement and driving without a valid license, resulting in a fine and one year of probation. Additionally, he has accumulated 12 traffic and parking violations in the U.S.

Interestingly, Ibrahim once claimed that his sister was actually his wife and that they had children together, a claim that was later found to be false.

According to ICE, Ibrahim entered the U.S. from New York in 1995 after being deported from Canada. An immigration judge ordered his removal on April 3, 2004, specifically noting the extensive fraud he was involved in. His appeal was rejected, and in 2006, the court confirmed the immigration ruling.

Despite this, he received Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for about a decade. Currently, he has an unresolved TPS application pending since 2023.

Ibrahim has been photographed with prominent Minnesota figures, including Gov. Walz, Rep. Ilhan Omar, Minneapolis Councilman Jamal Osman, and state Senator Omar Fateh, who recently lost the mayoral race in Minneapolis. He has met with Walz at least two times, and both Osman and Fateh provided letters of support during Ibrahim’s immigration process.

Government Scrutiny on Fraud in Minnesota

Recently, President Trump announced measures aimed at addressing fraudulent activities in Minnesota, labeling it a “center of money laundering.” This move helped to justify the ending of deportation protections for many Somali immigrants. New investigations have been initiated, including a Treasury Department inquiry into how taxpayer money may have been funneled to the terrorist group al-Shabaab, according to Secretary Scott Bessent.

Last month, Trump mentioned fraud as a critical factor in the termination of TPS for numerous Somali immigrants, suggesting they “should go back to where they came from.”

Impending ICE Operations in Minneapolis

In response to new operational plans by ICE, Minneapolis city officials are bracing for an increased presence of agents. Walz, who opposed Trump in the 2024 election alongside Vice President Kamala Harris, condemned Trump’s comments regarding Minnesota’s Somali population. He stated that such hate speech has no place in Minnesota and criticized the notion of judging people based on their race or ethnicity.

Walz emphasized that Minnesota’s Somali community significantly contributes to the state’s economic and cultural vitality. Attempts by Fox News Digital to contact Walz, Omar, Fateh, and Osman for comments have not yet been successful.
