Hillary Clinton to Attend New Hampshire Fundraising Dinner
Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is set to return to New Hampshire next month, a notable state for the first presidential primary in the U.S.
However, Clinton, who was the Democratic presidential candidate in 2016, has no plans to make a political comeback in 2028. In a recent interview, she mentioned that she is not considering another run for president, adding that the party has a strong pool of candidates.
Instead, Clinton will headline the New Hampshire Democratic Party’s (NHDP) annual spring fundraising dinner. This event, known as the McIntyre Shaheen 100 Club Dinner, is scheduled for April 25 in Nashua, New Hampshire.
Ray Buckley, a longstanding chair of the NHDP, praised Clinton’s dedication to women’s rights and economic security during her public service, highlighting her efforts in voting rights and family leave policies.
Clinton’s press secretary indicated that she is looking forward to her visit to New Hampshire.
Yet, Clinton’s upcoming appearance has sparked some discontent among certain party members in the state. One progressive leader, speaking anonymously, expressed concerns about the party’s direction, labeling the fundraising dinner as tone-deaf. They suggested that while Clinton has had a significant past, she lacks fresh perspectives for today’s needs.
Clinton previously won the New Hampshire primary in 2008, competing against Barack Obama for the nomination, but faced a tough loss in 2016 to Senator Bernie Sanders during her second campaign.
Since the 2016 election, Clinton has returned to New Hampshire a couple of times, including a book tour in 2017 and a talk at Dartmouth College in 2019.
Despite some criticism, many in New Hampshire still hold affection for Clinton due to her past service, as noted by Lucas Meyer, a local nonprofit leader. He emphasized that the fundraising dinner aims to support the party’s campaign efforts, and Clinton’s presence might help attract donations without the pressure of running for office herself.
