Some vulnerable Democrats will not attend the Democratic National Convention.
They are skipping it to focus on their own election campaigns.
Several Democrats from battleground states and districts will skip the 2024 Democratic National Convention in Chicago to focus on their own campaigns, Punchbowl News reports.
Democratic Sens. Sherrod Brown of Ohio and Jon Tester of Montana told the Punchbowl they would attend the convention. Both are running in states that former President Donald Trump won in 2020 and is expected to win handily this year.
Sen. Jacky Rosen (D-Nevada), who is campaigning with Vice President Kamala Harris and running mate Tim Walz, D-Nevada, said she would also skip the convention, according to Punchbowl, in what is considered a battleground state.
In the House of Representatives, Reps. Yadira Carabeo (D-Colo.), Jared Golden (D-Maine), Josh Harder (D-California) and Marie Grusenkamp Perez (D-Wash.) told Punchbowl they would skip the caucus.
Other Democrats have not yet said whether they will attend.
Frontliner Rep. Val Hoyle (D-Ore.) also plans to remain in her district during convention week because of the ongoing wildfires.
“We do not anticipate she will be attending,” Carmen Fore, Hoyle’s chief of staff, said in an email.[Hoyle] “She’s in Oregon. The wildfires here are getting worse and dealing with them is her top priority right now.”
Other leading Democratic candidates, Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D-Ohio), Rep. Susie Lee (D-Nevada), Rep. Matt Cartwright (D-Pennsylvania) and Rep. Susan Wild (D-Pennsylvania), said they had not yet finalized their convention week schedules.
