Virginia Billionaire’s Son Wins Bid to Seal Divorce Case
The son of a Virginia billionaire, involved in a high-stakes divorce battle, has successfully petitioned to seal his divorce case from public view. The ruling comes ahead of a court appearance next week with his estranged wife’s psychologist.
Peter Goodwin, an avid race car enthusiast, received approval from a judge in Albemarle County Circuit Court to keep the divorce proceedings confidential. This decision follows his separation from Carla Goodwin, the mother of his four children, which began in January, according to court documents.
This sealing means that all related court documents will no longer be accessible to the public. This includes allegations that Carla abandoned Peter on Christmas Day 2023 when she was caring for their four-month-old baby, as well as references to her ties with former nanny Annette Lombard.
The estranged couple, both 40 years old, is set to appear in court for a public hearing on August 27 in Charlottesville.
Carla has accused Peter of having an affair with Lombard, who previously worked for them while they were students at the University of Virginia. Lombard started in Peter’s office and, according to court statements, was later promoted to a vice president position within his company.
Text exchanges between Peter and Carla reveal escalating tensions. In one exchange, Carla confronted Peter, questioning whether his family was aware of his lies. Peter retorted, emphasizing the financial settlement he offered her and criticizing her perceived double standards in raising their children.
Peter admitted to not being perfect, acknowledging past mistakes but arguing that the anger caused their marital breakdown, not fleeting indiscretions.
Peter’s father, William Goodwin, has been linked to various businesses, including joint ownership of the AMF bowling chain. He has also contributed significantly to educational and cancer research initiatives.
Representatives for Peter declined to comment, and Carla’s lawyers did not respond immediately.
