Democratic President Joe Biden will take to the stage Thursday night to deliver his third and potentially final State of the Union address as U.S. president, depending on the outcome of November’s presidential election.
Mr. Biden will appear in the House of Representatives in front of the entire Congress, with Vice President Kamala Harris and House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) sitting behind him for a speech scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. ET. The annual address of the Chief Executive of the Nation always eclipses Washington’s pageantry, as most of the president’s Cabinet, excluding designated survivors, as well as the top military advisers, most members of Congress, and most Supreme Court justices attend the ceremony in the House of Representatives. filled with. During the State of the Union address, presidents often tout their accomplishments over the past year and lofty goals for the coming year. But for Biden, the 2024 speech comes at a particularly dangerous time for him politically and nationally. Former President Donald Trump, Biden’s main opponent in the general election, defeated his last remaining challenger on Super Tuesday and concluded the Republican nomination for president. While Mr. Trump currently leads Mr. Biden in most general election polls and in key battleground states across the country, Mr. Biden’s disapproval rate among American voters is near an all-time low.

Moreover, Biden’s own Justice Department, through special counsel Robert Hur, just decided that he will not face criminal charges. That’s because Mr. Biden, in Mr. Hur’s estimation, is “elderly” and has problems with “poor memory,” otherwise he would face criminal charges. Biden will use the stage Thursday evening to try to prove his doubters wrong, something he could easily do if he kept his ear to the teleprompter throughout his speech. Highly sexual.
There are also big questions facing the country and the world as Biden seeks to regain control. First, on the economy, inflation continues to rage out of control, and Mr. Biden is trying to shift the blame from himself and the Democratic Party’s policy failures to corporations by leaning into the buzzword “shrinkflation.” will do. That’s not the only place Biden will engage in the blame game Thursday. When it comes to immigration and the policy failures that have brought millions of immigrants into the country, Biden will no doubt hold Trump and Congressional Republicans accountable. This trend is due to, among other things, the decision to block a bipartisan Senate foreign aid agreement negotiated by Sen. James Lankford (R-Okla.). But Biden’s accusations of that would be factually inaccurate. This is because the Lankford Agreement would have made the problem far worse than it is now, not at all better. And Biden could easily solve this problem with presidential action and a return to Trump’s policies.
Trump said he would provide live commentary and fact-checking of Biden’s lies throughout the speech through his Truth Social account. President Trump’s response was followed by Sen. Katie Britt (R., Alabama), who was chosen from outgoing Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R., Kentucky), and Johnson, who will give his own speech. Far more important than the “official” Republican response presented.

But perhaps the most important thing about the State of the Union address is what Mr. Biden and his aides recently told The New Yorker expect to be the centerpiece of his 2024 re-election campaign: some form of conflict between Republicans and Mr. Trump. It remains to be seen how Mr. Biden will deal with the nonsensical argument that there is no such thing. A threat to democracy itself. How political Mr. Biden is received in this speech and how it is received afterwards could determine whether President Trump maintains or expands his lead in the race for the White House in the opening round of the general election. is very high.
